As a first-generation college student, I had little idea about where I wanted to attend college. Throughout my senior year of high school, I received letters from different colleges, but only one drew my attention: Saginaw Valley State University. My initial attraction was the fact that SVSU was interested in awarding me a merit-based scholarship. I knew that opportunities like this didn’t happen very often and that I owed it to myself and my family to look into SVSU.

Once I toured campus I knew that SVSU was the college for me. It felt like home and I was comfortable knowing that the small class sizes would allow me to form relationships with my peers and professors.

Receiving a scholarship not only brought me to SVSU but has been a driving force behind my education here. The Dean’s Scholarship has relieved part of the financial burden that most college students feel, but more importantly, it has also helped me stay focused on my academics.

I plan to one day give back to SVSU so future students can benefit from scholarships like I have.

You can help students achieve their dreams with a gift to SVSU.
